Pouran Jinci is a New York-based artist of Iranian origin. Jinci often uses a mixture of calligraphy and abstract expressionism in her work, where she interweaves Islamic geometry, Iranian traditions and contemporary aesthetics with a unique lyricism.
Her early paintings are more abstract and literal in their presentation of poetry, in which texts are transformed into unrecognizable flowing, anthropomorphic figures. Trained in calligraphy, she finds the connection between words and forms.
Ginci’s recent work reflects an increasingly detailed emphasis on the form of language as an object.
